Copy a Security Template

The system security templates are read-only and can be assigned to users, but can't be edited. If one of the system templates has most of the permissions you want for a group of employees, but isn't exactly what you want, you can copy it and edit the copy.

You can find out which permissions are included in a template using the Security Template window or the Available Security Templates tab in Manage User. You can also review lists of permissions for the templates by module. Click here for links.

Copy a security template

  1. Select Security, then Manage Security Templates from the Administration menu. The Security Template window opens. Note: You may want to search or filter the list to make it easier to find the template you want to copy. Sample

  2. Check the box to select a template, and click Copy. The Copy Security Template window opens displaying the name of the template being copied.

  3. Enter a New Security Template Name for the new template.

  4. Check the Reassign users to new security template box, if you want all users who were assigned to the template being copied to now be assigned to the new template.

  5. Click Copy. The Security Template Details window opens displaying all permissions for all modules.

  6. In the Search field in the Permissions section of the window, enter the module name — e.g. payroll — that includes the permissions for this template, and click Search. The permissions list now includes only permissions for that module, making the list more workable.

  7. Add and remove permissions.

  8. Since this template is a new one, no users will have been linked to it yet. You may leave the box labeled Reset permissions for all Users associated with this User Security Template unchecked.

  9. When you're finished adding and deleting permissions, click Cancel to return to the Security Template window.
