Add a Security Template

You can add a security template from scratch as described in this topic, but you can also adapt a system template to meet your requirements by copying and editing it.

Create a security template

  1. Select Security, then Manage Security Templates, from the Administration menu. The Security Template window opens.

  2. Click the Add button, and the New Security Template window opens. Note: Make sure the Allowed filter is set to All.

  3. Complete the fields as described. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*).

  4. Click Save, and you're returned to the Security Template window. Note: You must save the new template before you can add permissions. If you're adding several templates, you can click Save and Add instead of Save to create additional templates. Then edit the new templates to add permissions.

  5. Click the Name link for the new template, and the Security Template Details window opens. Note: Since this template is new, you don't need to check the box labeled Reset permissions for all Users associated with this User Security Template.

  6. Optional. Filter the list, and increase the number of permissions displayed in the window to make it easier to find the permissions you want to assign.

  7. Check the boxes to select permissions for this template, and click Assign Permission(s). You're asked to confirm the action.

  8. Click Yes, and the permissions are assigned.

  9. Click Cancel to return to the Security Template window.

Apply templates to users in Manage User.

Tips when selecting permissions

 Permissions are categorized

Filter the list by using the Search field

Since the list of permissions that are available for a new template is very long, it's a good idea to make the list selective by using the Search feature in the Permissions part of the window. You can search by module name, group name, permission type, and permission description.

Permission types include, but aren't limited to, view, add, edit, and delete. Permissions also include functions like printing, approving, submitting, enabling, and approving.

Increase the number of items displayed in the window

The default display is 25 items per page. If there are many items in the permissions list, you may want to increase the number to 50, 100, or 200. Then you can scroll through the list of permissions without having to change pages as often.
