Using the Budget Development Tool

  1. Select Budget Development from the Budget menu, and the Budget Development window opens to the Source tab.

  2. Click New. You'll see the following message, "All Budget Development parameters will be reset to their default values allowing you to start a new Budget Development project. Do you want to continue?" Click Yes to begin a new parameter set, or No if you want to continue with your previous editing.

  3. Select the Source Accounting Cycle from the pull-down list. Note: The list includes all accounting cycles in the system. This choice will limit the selection of all cycle-specific objects in all windows in this process. These objects include positions, jobs, and GL balances. Budget amounts will be projected based on the GL account balances from the selected cycle. This selection does not affect the source of the salary schedules.

  4. Select the data source from the Project Budget Amounts Using options — payroll positions, payroll salary schedules, or general ledger balances. The tabs displayed will change if you choose an option that wasn't selected when the window opened.

  5. Work through the tabs entering parameters for the budget projections. Click the following links for instructions on entering parameters.

  6. Click the Save button to save the parameters you've entered. The Save Report Settings window opens.

  7. Enter a name for the parameter set, and click Save.

  8. Click Generate, and the Budget Development popup opens.

  9. Enter a brief description in the Result Set Name field that will allow you to return to the results to edit them at a later time.

  10. Click OK. You're notified that the budget development report has been added to the job queue, and you'll be notified when the report is finished.

  11. Click View Results, and Budget Development grid opens. From there you can review and edit the data.
